The American Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865.  618,222 men died in the war.  360,222 from the North and 258,000 from the South.  Southern States included South Carolina  Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The South was Pro-Slavery. Northern States included California ,Connecticut ,Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts ,Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire ,New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
