Finding my Hat By: John Son

Finding my Hat is a book of Jin-hans memory’s. He starts with his first memory, when at age two he loses his hat to a gust of wind. 

He talks about starting Nursery School, and how all the boys went to a corner and looked at catalogs.  He was a loner and sat on the floor and played with the wooden donuts.

Then he started Kindergarten in a trailer with five other kids. He talked about all of the kids. There was one girl he kissed and their picture was taken together in the yearbook and they were labeled as “Sweethearts”.

       When Jin-han was 5 his sister was born. Then shortly after they moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Once they were settled in his parents opened a wig store. When they left Tennessee the forgot their kimchee and the next family found it. 

     When Jin-han was older they moved to Houston, Texas. There they opened another wig store and named it “Rosa’s Wigs”. Jin-hans mother’s American name was Rosa. He wondered  what his American name was but his dad told him when he got older he could choose his own.

Jin-han grows up in Houston and when he is in High school his mother becomes sick with Cancer. She ends up dying and his girlfriend asked him what his first memory with his mother was, it was when he lost his hat with his mother. Hence the name “Finding mt Hat”
